Houston has a problem alright, a huge diaper disparity problem.
One third of the families in Houston have trouble affording diapers for their babies. While there are relief organizations like SNAP, TANF, and food banks- there are no organizations or government assistance programs that pay for diapers. This can lead to higher numbers of infanticide and sick babies.
Enter: No Child Wet Behind– a nonprofit organization that is based out of Peekskill, New York. The organization as a whole works throughout the country to facilitate Diaper drives and fundraisers to benefit local Diaper banks.
We began our work with No Child Wet Behind last year with a 5k held in Sugar Land.
This year we are continuing with a Diaper Drive and Mom’s Night Our Soiree to be held at our office in Old Town Spring on May 12th from 7pm to 10pm.
The event will be a professionally catered event with live music by Daniel Orr, and friends. There will be a Silent Auction featuring local businesses. It’s a time to gather and celebrate our success, get an official diaper count, and present our benefactor with all that we have collected. All diapers collected, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the local Houston Diaper Assistance Program. Admission is $10 and a box of diapers. Your admission gets you access to all the fun, and tickets for the silent auction. You may purchase additional tickets for one dollar each.
The diaper drive is happening right now, and we have drop spots all over Houston. The fun continues tomorrow night as we cheer on the Houston Roller Derby teams in their April doubleheader. No Child Wet Behind has been chosen as this months charity and they are donating proceeds, and collecting diapers on our behalf. Will you join us?!
are you at able to join us, but still want to help?
