Postpartum & Infant Care
HB&B helps you find your confidence in parenting through emotional support, newborn care, and hands on help. Your main job after growing and giving birth to a human is to rest and recover. Let your postpartum doula take care of the rest!
Everyone knows the saying “it takes a village to raise a child”, but those words are never more true than when you bring home a new baby (or babies!). Back in the day, everyone lived close to their families when they had children and when you gave birth you would be surrounded by support and wisdom. People would cook you food, help tend the baby, keep your household from looking like a tornado blew through it, and most importantly, allowed the new parents to rest. Now you may be thousands of miles from your nearest female relative and may not have more than a few days of your mom in your home helping, if even that. It’s a lonely and overwhelming prospect to find yourself all alone with a new, tiny human. They are not, after all, very good conversationalists.
Enter: The Postpartum Doula.
A Postpartum Doula is there to fill all the gaps in your village. While we are professional baby snugglers, our focus is on the entire family. Life with a newborn baby is hard. There’s a lot of big emotions and often not a whole lot of sleep. This is true for mom and dad, but also for any big brothers or sisters. Postpartum Doulas help everyone make the best adjustment possible. You can parent with even more confidence because you will have a professional to reassure you every step of the way. We specialize in non-judgmental, unbiased support, so we will never push our own parenting philosophies on you or offer unsolicited advice about your parenting. If you WANT advice, though, we have tons!
Just consider your doula a human baby manual.
Emotional support is the cornerstone of what we do, but we also offer practical support for your household: minor chores, food prep, baby care, sibling care, etc. We want you to be as rested and stress-free as possible, so we will do whatever needs to be done to facilitate that.
If what you most need is a solid night of sleep, our overnight doulas can care for your baby/babies through the night while you get some rest. We can help with any feeding method overnight, either waking you to nurse or bottle feeding ourselves. Even if you are waking to breastfeed/pump you can get back to sleep much more quickly with someone to assist with the diaper change/burping/re-swaddling part of the process and getting baby back to sleep.
We are very much like a night nurse, or nanny- but our care is a bit more specialized. Our doulas understand the birth process can and does affect the post baby recovery in an emotional and physical way. Lets work together to make your transition a smooth one.
